Expanded Health & Safety Measures

This morning, the Province announced that expanded health and safety measures would be implemented in all schools across British Columbia.

Updated Mask Requirements

Effective Monday, October 4, 2021, all students in B.C. schools will be required to wear masks when inside a school building, including while at their desks and on buses, unless medically, developmentally, behaviourally or otherwise legitimately precluded from doing so. Staff will continue to work with students and families in a positive and supportive way regarding mask-wearing. This health order expands on the existing guidelines that currently apply to all grades 4 to 12 and will remain in place until the end of the school term.

School Exposure Notifications

Our school district will continue to work with Fraser Health to do all we can to ensure that COVID-19 exposure notifications are timely and transparent. School exposures will be posted on the Fraser Health website, with direct access to this page available on every district and school website. Self-monitoring and self-isolation letters will be shared directly with select students and staff as indicated by our health authority.

Daily Health Check

The safety and well-being of our students, families, and staff continue to remain our highest priority. Doing your part to check for symptoms every day before going to school and staying at home if you have COVID-19 symptoms are essential steps to keeping our schools safe. These measures act as an extra line of defense to ensure that our children and staff can continue to attend school as safely as possible.

Please continue to complete a Daily Health Check each morning, wear a mask, continue to wash your hands frequently, and maximize physical distance where possible.

Ongoing Communications

British Columbia’s Provincial Health Officer and the Minister of Education will continue to monitor developments around the COVID-19 pandemic. This means that the Province could decide to amend, enhance, or modify health and safety guidelines across our school district at any point during the school year. The Provincial Health Officer will always make this decision in collaboration with the regional health authority and education officials.

We appreciate your understanding and support as we implement these expanded health and safety measures across our schools.

Sincerely,

Dr. Kevin Godden,
Superintendent of Schools
